Refinishing of older sinks and tubs has become extremely popular, and Shampine Refinishing is fully capable of refinishing antique cast iron leg tubs and sinks. We've specialized in this service for decades and our Cicero shop is set up for complete restoration of these valuable antique pieces.
Here's more information about this service, in Ed Shampine's words:
"I have refinished some claw foot tubs that are incredibly old made in the late 1800’s, but most antique claw foot tubs I refinish are from the 1920’s. Most tubs and sinks have a date on the bottom that is cast in when manufactured.
To get the ultimate “show like” finish, I recommend having the work done at my shop where I can perform a more thorough preparation before applying multiple primers to get proper adhesion and a smooth sanded finish prior to applying the final finish coatings.
After the final finish has dried, I then wet sand any small amounts of dust that may have settled on the surface while spraying and buff to a smooth glossy finish.
Refinishing a tub or sink at my shop takes approximately two weeks.
Length of time needed varies based on current workload and when the customer needs the tub back.
I do not provide any pickup or delivery of items. Please call ahead to arrange a time for either.
I can do multiple colors on tubs and/or the feet. The most popular is all white. White on the inside with the legs and/or outside a different color is an upcharge as it requires more steps and possibly the purchase of a color I do not have in stock.
Items that have been previously refinished on the inside will require stripping of that finish, then proceed to the normal preparations. There is additional fee for stripping.
Please call us at 315-699-5565 for more details and a price quote."
